Why It Fails
This is the exact reality that leaves many management teams baffled: they spend six figures on digital marketing, yet trading volume remains completely dead.
The reason it fails so spectacularly is that consumer digital marketing algorithms are fundamentally incompatible with financial markets. When a junior mining company applies standard e-commerce logic to stock liquidity, it breaks down for specific, structural reasons.
Digital ad platforms (like Meta and Google) optimize for engagement or clicks, not financial liquidity.
The Glitch:
If an agency runs an ad campaign, the platform's AI will find people who click on things easily, such as mobile gamers, hobbyists, or casual scrollers.
The Result:
The company gets a high Click-Through Rate (CTR) and thousands of website visitors, which the marketing agency uses to claim “success.” However, none of those visitors own a brokerage account or have ever bought a micro-cap stock. You cannot “add a stock to a shopping cart.”
Unlike purchasing a consumer product, buying a micro-cap resource stock requires a highly specific financial infrastructure.
The Friction:
A retail investor who sees an ad cannot just type in their credit card. They must log into a brokerage account, understand the ticker symbol across different exchanges (e.g., TSX-V vs. OTCQX), check market depth, and execute a limit order.
The Breakage:
Every step of this financial friction eliminates casual buyers. Six-figure ad spends generate curiosity, but curiosity rarely translates into an actual funded brokerage order.
The moment a company begins utilizing aggressive, broad digital ad campaigns, they actively alienate the only investors capable of moving millions of shares: Institutional funds, commodity brokers, and family offices.
The Stigma:
Professional resource investors view broad digital marketing as a sign of management desperation or an impending “dump.”
The Response:
When professionals see a junior miner popping up on their personal social media feeds, they often sell their existing positions or completely avoid the stock, offsetting any small retail buying that might have occurred.
To visualize why the money disappears without a trace, look at how the capital is actually distributed in a typical $200,000 retail digital ad campaign:
| Expense Category | Budget Allocation | Actual Impact on Trading Volume |
|---|---|---|
| Agency Retainer Fee | $40,000 (20%) | Zero. Pays for agency overhead, content creation, and reports. |
| Ad Platform Tolls (Meta/Google) | $100,000 (50%) | Minimal. Buys casual clicks and impressions from non-investors. |
| Lead Magnet / Landing Pages | $20,000 (10%) | Zero. Gathers email addresses of people seeking “free reports.” |
| Actual Inflow to Brokerage Order Books | Unknown / Fragmented | Net Zero. Fails to overcome the friction of opening/using a brokerage account. |
Because the vast majority of the budget goes toward platform fees and agency margins rather than targeting verified, active brokerage accounts, the money is effectively vaporized.
What Works
Reaching existing microcap investors with brokerage accounts who actually can buy your company's shares. Which is best done by advertising in the specialist financial newsletters these people read and linking your ads to a dedicated landing page setting out a compelling investment case for your company. That's it.
We have published financial newsletters since the 1980s, moving into electronic newsletters in the 1990s. We've been involved with digital right from the start, and there's very little about this business we don't know.
How much does it cost?
Very little. $3,000 for a landing page to your specifications (the designer is rated as the best) plus $5,000 for an ad package.
